The wait is over, the time has arrived for our patient to start her dream smile by using Invisalign as a clear, fresh and hygienic way to straighten the teeth. Invisalign is a series of clear removable braces that straighten teeth over a course of several months (usually not years!). A set of aligners (clear braces) are worn for two weeks, twenty hours a day. After two weeks a patient moves to the next aligners in the set, during the treatment plan there may be occasions when the patient needs an appointment with Dr. Abdah, in order for him to make spaces in between the teeth (to allow the teeth to move), and also in the early stages of the Invisalign treatment Dr. Abdah places tooth coloured attachments to the teeth in order to give the aligners retention. Sometimes the patient get many aligners together, thus minimising the visits to the practice. the patient was very pleased with the first aligners and felt very little pressure on the teeth but wasn’t uncomfortable. She look forward to her future aligners, as every aligner means a step closer to her dream smile that she rightly deserve, especially as she will get a FREE whitening in the end to enhance the overall look. The patient had been wearing her invisalign for a total of 9 months now, and after only a few visits to our practice to change over the retainers , add atttachments and also Dr. Abdah would do some inter proximal reduction to make very small spaces between the teeth, this is to allow space for the teeth to move. Today it was time to have the attachments removed and her teeth polished. Dr. Abdah was definately very happy with the outcome. The patients teeth were looking very nice and straight, she was exceedingly happy with her new smile. After Dr. Abdah polishes the teeth, he then took impressions, that would be sent to a special lab who would make retainers, which are plastic templates that keep teeth in place. Dr. Abdah asked the patient to book a follow up appointment in two weeks, to get her new retainers fitted, and of course at that moment she will be entitled to FREE Whitening!! A lady who had been a patient at the surgery for many years has decided that she would like an implant in the front of her mouth, in the gap where a tooth had been extracted by a previous dentist years before. She has been wearing a denture, but now has decided that she would like a permanent solution. Dentures can be very difficult to use, and they never will replace a missing tooth, unlike implants which are strong and are aesthetically pleasing. Dr. Abdah had designated a very long appointment for this particular case as the results of her Digital OPG Xray showed that there was traces of Amalgam inside the gum which needed to be carefully removed. Before the procedure Dr. Abdah explained that until he opens the area and cleans out all of the amalgam and measures the density of the bone he will not know if it is possible to place and implant instantly. Dr. Abdah explained that if the implant is not possible today he would clean out the amalgam and graft the area with substitute bone and then cover this with a membrane. After six months the bone would be more dense and the mouth would then be ready for an implant. Dr. Abdah was definitely surprised to see so much amalgam inside the gum, The amalgam was everywhere, he explained to the patient that due to that his main concern today would definitely be to clean the area and make it ready for an implant in six months time. He explained the potential risks of having amalgam embedded in the bone. The other major reason to remove this amalgam is that it can potentially cause precancerous areas in the mouth. Dr. Abdah has a Velscope machine that checks areas under the cheeks, tongue gums and all around the mouth for any changes in the tissue. He uses this device on every patient who has a routine check up. After two and a half hours of intense work, and a lot of cleaning Dr. Abdah had finished the procedure. As he had previously explained the area should be ready in approximately six months. Dr. Abdah will see the patient for the removal of stitches in ten days. Dr. Abdah also asked Wendy to book another long appointment in six months time, to place the implants. The story will continue……

Enlighten whitening for a patient who lives in Cambridge and works in Stevenage

This afternoon a patient attended our practice for a Free consultation, he was wanting a whiter smile. He wanted a whiter smile as in was in the process of looking for a new job and thought that this would give him a confidence boost. Dr. Abdah checked his teeth and advised him that he had a heavy bite and therefor needed to get a night guard as well as he had chipped the edge of his teeth. There was two options that could potentially give this man a whiter smile. The first option would be a treatment called Zoom Advanced Whitening, this entails a two hour appointment using a Laser lamp to enhance the colour. The second option would be to get a dedicated Lab to make trays that fit the patients mouth, and hold the specially formulated Enlighten gel in place. These trays would need to be worn whilst sleeping, Dr. Abdah advised the patient that in order to reach the maximum effect he recommended that the man wears them for at least two weeks. The patient was very happy with Dr. Adah’s advice and decided to have the treatment. Dr Abdah and myself then quickly prepared the patient and the surgery, and took the impressions immediately. The impressions will return from the Lab in approximately ten days and we will then contact the patient.

Today at Dentastique is Tuesday and the day that our Dental hygienist, Marg works at our practice. Evey new patient during their examination receives a treatment plan from the dentist. One of the first stages of this treatment plan usually is a visit to our in house hygienist, Marg. One of our patients who is due to have a smile makeover with Dr. Abdah has arrived for their 30 minute appointment. Marg reads the prescription from the Dentist(instructions) and sets about implementing them. Usually in the form of Oral Hygiene instruction, Which tooth brushes to use (i.e manual or electric). Marg also recommends Inter dental aids such as Floss, Inter dental brushes, waterpik, wooden plastic tooth picks etc… Marg also assesses whether a mouth wash is recommended and of course Marg Scales and Polishes the teeth, either by hand or with the Ultrasonic Scalar. Normally the Hygienist recommends a six monthly visit.

New porcelain crowns for a gentleman living in Great Shelford

It was Friday and time to treat our last (but not least) patient of the week. The patient had attended our clinic previosly, firstly for a FREE consultation and also for a preparation appointment to accommodate two new porcelain crowns. The porcelain crowns were back from the lab, and certainly looking good. Dr. Abdah took off the temporary crowns and tried in the new ones, they also looked fantasic in the mouth! The new crowns fitted perfectly too, very little adjusting was needed. Dr Abdah decided that the crowns were ready to be cemented in place.

After weeks of planning and Dr. Abdah making a wax model of this gentleman’s teeth, as a simulation for the treatment, it was time to start the cosmetic makeover. On this gentleman’s first appointment his wife came along to Dentastique with him to help with the decision making. Dr. Abdah had taken some alginate impressions of his mouth in order for the technician to make some study models. As you can see Dr. Abdah explained, I have shaped your teeth, and worked extensively on this model and towards the back of your mouth there is absolutely no space to place any implants. I think that the first thing to do would be to work on your smile zone. It would mean a selection of crowns, bridges and two new veneers, to give you a perfect smile. Unfortunately the upper right Lateral Incisor is sitting in such a way that it actually needs extracting. Dr. Abdah firstly took time to make the teeth in wax on the study model in order to achieve the best results today. During today’s appointment Dr. Abdah shaped the five front teeth and then extracted the out of place tooth. He then made really nice temporary teeth, using a rubber mould that he made from the wax teeth. At the end of the treatment today, the patients wife was happily surprised to see her husbands makeover. Dr. Abdah will see the patient in three months to carry on with the treatment plan.

The day had arrived for the Bride to be to come along to Dentastique to have her Porcelain Veneers and Porcelain Crowns fitted. Dr. Abdah firstly welcomed the patient into his surgery, and made her feel comfortable. He then checked that the shade of the new teeth against the patients other teeth, the shade was perfect! It was now time for Dr. Abdah to gently remove the temporary teeth and place the brand new Porcelain ones in place. Dr. Abdah used the latest technique in porcelain cement that he had acquired in the USA, when he was there earlier this year sitting an exam to become an Accredited member of The American Academy of cosmetic dentistry, which he passed! The bride to be was very happy with the results and now wishes for Dr. Abdah to become her general dentist.

A couple of weeks ago we had a patient come in for a FREE consultation. The patient decided that he would like to have his very old front crowns replaced to new porcelain crowns. It was now time for Dr. Abdah to take off the old crowns and shape the existing teeth ready for new ones. Dr. Abdah took impressions and used the true shade device to decide which colour would match the rest of the teeth. The crowns will be sent to a Lab, to be made and they will be sent back after two weeks. The patient also plays sport, and has requested that Dr. Abdah makes him a sports guard to protect his new crowns. Dr. Abdah will first fit the new crowns and then he will take the impressions for the sports guard. The new crowns will take approximately two weeks to be made and sent back to the surgery.
